Poetry

The Divine Comedy - Inferno by Dante Alighieri

Inferno: The journey begins in a dark forest where Dante, lost and struggling, is guided by the Roman poet Virgil. They enter the nine circles of Hell, each representing different sins and their corresponding punishments. The vivid and often gruesome depictions serve as a powerful allegory of the consequences of sin.

The Divine Comedy - Paradiso by Dante Alighieri

Paradiso: In the final part, Virgil is replaced by Beatrice, Dante's ideal woman, who guides him through the nine spheres of Heaven. Here, Dante encounters the blessed souls and experiences the divine presence of God. The poem concludes with Dante's ultimate vision of God and his understanding of divine love.

The Divine Comedy - Purgatorio by Dante Alighieri

Purgatorio: After escaping Hell, Dante and Virgil climb the Mount of Purgatory, which is divided into seven terraces, each corresponding to one of the seven deadly sins. Souls here are purified in preparation for their ascent to Heaven. This part of the journey emphasizes repentance and spiritual growth.
